Mike Wade, “Imperial Valley can’t sustain another water cut,” Dec. 14, is absolutely right. However, if we can’t get new water to the Colorado River, and even though conservation is important, no amount of conservation is going to fix this problem. Here’s one solution to avoid ....

Presently, the United States is undergoing a severe economic crisis. On the one hand, inflation is at a forty-year high, and on the other, the withering of productive economy is accelerating. The solution to this crisis was the subject of discussion at an emergency Zoom Town Hall sponsored by the Coalition for a National Infrastructure Bank (NIB), on June 16, 2022. To set the stage, there is a lack of agreement on the current cause and solution of America’s economic crisis, and this is the subject of heavy debate. The prevailing narrative is that there are only two deadly choices ....

June 16, 2022 -Ellen Brown, Founder and Chair of the Public Banking Institute; Dr. Nomi Prins, PhD, renowned author, journalist and speaker; and Cornell University Professor of Law and Finance Robert Hockett engaged an enthusiastic audience for an emergency town hall meeting on June 16, 2022. Against the backdrop of skyrocketing inflation and looming economic recession, the speakers analyzed the causes of the economic crisis gripping the United States economy, and offered bold solutions. They detailed the growing divide between the mass of financial paper in circulation and the dwindling productive economy , and made it clear that the only way out of this crisis is to produce again. One solution is the enactment by Congress of a new National Infrastructure Bank as outlined in H.R.3339. Another proposal is the creation of a National Reconstruction and Development Council to coordinate an aggressive revival of American production. The $5 trillion National Infrastructure Bank will require no new federal dollars and no new federal taxes. It will be big enough to fix everything and build new 21st Century infrastructure and industry. The National Reconstruction and Development Council will be modeled on the highly successful WWII War Production Board. The WPB and the Reconstruction Finance Corporation oversaw the most powerful expansion of industry ever conducted by the United States. Please watch this dynamic exchange and share it with your friends. Speakers: Ellen Brown - Founder and Chair, Public Banking Institute; author “Web of Debt”; media commentator including Scheerpost.com, Los Angeles, Ca. Dr. Nomi Prins, Phd - Author: “Permanent Distortion: How the Financial Markets Abandoned the Real Economy Forever”, “All the Presidents’ Bankers”; former Managing Director, Goldman Sachs; Commentator: CNBC, Fox Business, CNN, MSNBC, New York Times, Ojai, Ca. On May 21, 2022. LULAC New Mexico adopted a resolution urging Congress to pass the National Infrastructure Bank Act, HR 3339, and create a $5 trillion bank to address the crisis in urban and rural infrastructure. Of paramount importance to the delegates, assembled at the Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce, is the urgent need to launch a vigorous effort to rebuild and improve the infrastructure impacted by the wave of deadly wildfires. Several of the large wildfires merged earlier in May and have burned 465 square miles of land, breaking the record for biggest wildfire in the state’s history. These fires have left in their wake a biblical scene of devastation and destruction which will require massive reconstruction. When passed by Congress, The National Infrastructure Bank could aid in the short and long term, to build projects to impact the region. The Bank could immediately go into the impoverished and well-to-do counties hit by the fires and provide long term credit and grants to create a prosperous, growing region. The NIB would create a Phoenix rising out of the ashes, which in this case is no mere metaphor. The National Latino Farmers and Ranchers Trade Association (NLFRTA) has also joined the effort to aid and rebuild the devastated areas of New Mexico. Already an endorser of the bill to create the National Infrastructure Bank, HR 3339, The NLFRTA has been on the front lines in New Mexico helping farmers and citizens who have been affected by the brutal impact of the historic fires.

In an April 28 NIB Zoom Town Hall, infrastructure experts lay the framework for a new economic direction entitled “Made in the USA: The National Infrastructure Bank Will Fire Up American Manufacturing.” As the Covid-19 pandemic, the breakdown of the domestic supply chain, and the rapid rise of inflation have converged to create a “perfect storm” of economic dislocation, it has created a unique opportunity to reverse decades of neglect of critical infrastructure, by rebuilding manufacturing and the American workforce. The time is now to implement the $5 Trillion National Infrastructure Bank which is exemplified in HR3339 in Congress. This legislation will compel a new resurgence of American industry to build the projects. Not only will the legislation mandate Buy America policies, but it will stimulate the creation of new industries to supply the materials for the projects. Made in America will be turned from a slogan into a reality. Speakers included: Alphecca Muttardy, Macroeconomist, former Senior Economist, International Monetary Fund, Fairfax, VA Dr. Alexander Metcalf, Ph.D., President Transportation Economics and Management Company, an international expert in rail, ports, and supply chains, Frederick, MD Senator William Tallman, Albuquerque, NM Steve Ribuffo, Port Director, Port of Alaska in Anchorage, AMPE, Anchorage, AK Steven Fenberg, Emmy award-winning author and producer of “Unprecedented Power: Jesse Jones, Capitalism and the Common Good”; “Brother, can you Spare a Billion?”, Houston, TX Rep.
