New York Assemblywoman Maryjane Shimsky, an infrastructure expert, presented a strong argument on the crises confronting the nation and the crucial role of the National Infrastructure Bank (NIB) in an August 20 National Zoom Forum. It was sponsored by the Coalition for a National Infrastructure Bank, and titled “It Takes a Crisis: Great Turning Points in American History.”
Asw. Shimsky, made her mark while serving as a member of the Westchester County, NY, Board of Legislators, in which capacity she oversaw the building of hundreds of infrastructure-related projects. She detailed all the critical infrastructure needs facing the nation. She also thanked other state and local elected officials for their help in supporting the NIB.
Asw. Shimsky called for transformative change. She said most people don’t realize how bad the infrastructure is because they can’t see it. She focused on three critical areas.
1) Affordability, a) housing shortages, b) utilities c) supply chain issues
2) Climate Resiliency
3) Power generation
The Assemblywoman ended with “We will be able to create the greatest economic expansion in a century if we’re willing to make the investment. The National Infrastructure Bank gives us a mechanism for providing a large chunk of funding of what we are going to need to make all these things happen, to solve these crises.”
