NEW VIDEO: “Alexander Hamilton, The American System, and Today’s Campaign for National Banking”

Jul 05, 2022

July 5, 2022 - Ellen Brown, Chair of the Public Banking Institute, Robert Hockett, Cornell University Professor of Law and Finance, Washington State Senator Robert Hasegawa and New York Assemblyman Felix Ortiz (fmr) were joined by elected officials from around the country for an Independence Day Weekend Mobilization Town Hall on the legacy of Founding Father Alexander Hamilton and the American System in today’s ongoing economic crisis.

The situation today is like that which faced the George Washington administration: large unpayable war debts and a non-existent productive economy. The United States was an economic basket case ripe for the taking. Under the bold leadership of Treasury Secretary Alexander Hamilton, the Congress assumed and funded all outstanding debt, and swapped it for equity in the newly minted Bank of the United States. That institution became the driving force in the transformation of the nation. We built internal improvements (i.e. infrastructure) and became a great manufacturing nation.

It is time to reclaim our past and implement Hamilton’s American System anew. Today the focus is around the creation of a new National Infrastructure Bank, as embodied in HR3339 and a National Reconstruction and Development Council.

We must build our way out of the crisis!

Public Banking Institute’s Ellen Brown and Cornell University’s Robert Hockett are experts on this tradition. They were joined by political and labor leaders from around the nation for a historic and dynamic discussion. Together they outlined a bold plan to build infrastructure and industry today, while drawing on the spectacular achievements of Hamilton and his collaborators. Watch this historic dialogue and spread the word.
